Honoring Charon Asetoyer (Comanche) with the Kat Glessing Award

Charon Asetoyer, M.A., (Comanche), Native women’s health advocate, CEO &Founder of the Native American Community Board located on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. The organization is known for Indigenous women’s rights locally, nationally, and internationally. International work includes consultations with WHO’s Global Aids program, addressing the UN Human Rights Commission Geneva on the status of Indigenous Peoples, participation in Working Group on Indigenous Populations, and facilitating a UN Working Group on “The Current Status of Health of the World’s Indigenous Peoples”, for the High Commission on Human Rights. Charon has also been appointed and confirmed by President Clinton’s Administration to the National Advisory Council for Health and Human Services, and has served on NEJEC and US EPA Boards, among others.

Renee Bracey Sherman

Renee Bracey Sherman, MPA is a reproductive justice activist committed to the visibility of people who have had abortions. She is a writer with Echoing Ida, a project of Forward Together that amplifies the voices of Black women around critical social justice issues. Bracey Sherman’s work on abortion storytelling has been featured on The New York Times, BBC, The Guardian, The Washington Post, EBONY, and The Atlantic. In 2015, she was named one of Planned Parenthood’s 99 Dream Keepers in honor of Black History Month. Bracey Sherman is the Senior Public Affairs Manager at the National Network of Abortion Funds based in Washington, DC. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Cornell University and currently sits on the board of NARAL Pro-Choice America. Follow her on Twitter at @RBraceySherman.
